RESCUE:Lifeline Italian Greyhound Rescue, Inc.
BREED: Italian Greyhound

Breed Description:

Italian Greyhounds look like toy-sized greyhounds. They have small, sighthound - shaped bodies, long legs, rose ears, hare-feet and very short, fine hair coats. They can be any color except for brindle or black with tan.
They average 13-15" high (larger than a Chihuahua, smaller than a Whippet), and 8-14 lbs, but can be either smaller, or quite a bit larger. IGs of up to 19" and 20+ lbs are not unusual, and can be mistaken for Whippets. Even though it's not standard for the breed, prick ears are not uncommon. Most will display a high-stepping gait (described as 'rolling a ball with their feet') that distinguishes them from other toy breeds. We welcome emailed photos from shelters if they need help identifying whether any particular dog is an Italian Greyhound.

Details about "DO YOU ACCEPT" responses:

We accept Italian Greyhounds from shelters, humane societies, veterinary offices (IGs surrendered or abandoned with fractured legs, etc.), and private owner surrenders.

When we have room, we take mixes if they appear to be primarily Italian Greyhounds.

Bite cases are individually evaluated before we accept them into our rescue.

DESCRIBE HOUSING USED FOR RESCUES:

All our IGs live in foster homes with volunteers who are experienced with the breed, and who are able to assist the dog in working through any problems to make the IG more adoptable - housetraining, crate training, manners, basic obedience, etc. They are never off-lead except within the home or inside a safely fenced area.
